Estey Organ Restoration ~
First Congregational Church, Wiscasset, ME.

We faithfully restored the tubular- pneumatic action in this 2/8 Estey, built in 1908. We departed from the original Estey design, however, by modifying the interior layout to ensure ease of future maintenance. These modifications are illustrated in the composite image below.

We removed the back of the swellbox, and installed doors in the back of the organ chamber from the adjacent Sunday school room. This allows easy access for maintaining the action and tuning the Swell division. We decreased the size of the reservoir, creating room to tube the stop action boxes down to the floor for easy access to the note pneumatics. We also removed the pressure regulating springs and their attendant framework from the top of the reservoir, replacing them with steel weights under an MDF cover board. This makes a convenient platform from which make action adjustments.
